Wow, 2024 already! We’re back with our first blog of the year, and it, of course, had to be about interior trends for 2024. There are some exciting changes coming to the interior world, from colour palettes to furniture, and we can’t wait to explore and incorporate the new trends into our design schemes this year. 2024 is about finally saying goodbye to grey and welcoming warm earthy colours to give your home that warm and cosy feel that we all desire.

We’ve shared with you six interior trends we think will be big in 2024.

Warm red

In 2023, terracotta was a big trend and it continues to be very popular. It felt brave for many to introduce this earthy colour into their homes, and we’re now seeing it evolve to red tones. Now it's time for warm reds to make their mark, think deeper reds such as burgundy and almost plum. You can experiment with red by introducing it into your colour scheme with cushions or throws. Mixing the warm reds with an earthy colour palette will create a warm and cosy feel, whether that's in your living room or bedroom. The red earthy paint colours we are particularly loving at the moment are Muscovado by Little Greene and Yes Chef by Coat.

Brown

In 2024, we are continuing to wave goodbye to grey and embrace earthy colours influenced by nature. Brown is making a comeback, yes brown! It may (or may not!) take you back to the 1970's, paired with avocado green and patterned carpets, but this time is different… we promise! It's time to embrace brown and see it as a great neutral to use in your colour scheme. We are seeing brown coming through in soft furnishings such as cushions, throws, armchairs, and rugs. When using brown in your home, you need to be mindful not to overuse it, otherwise it could feel quite flat and dull. If you love the idea of using brown but want to experiment first, use it in smaller pieces, such as cushions and accessories. Once you begin, you’ll be looking for a warm chocolate brown velvet armchair before you know it! We love the Darwin snuggle chair in pinecone from Dunelm, they are nailing the brown trend here.

Boucle - it's here to stay!

Boucle fabric has become a firm favourite amongst many and it is set to stay in 2024. It brings warmth with its texture and pairs well with other fabrics. I will be honest, when it was first introduced into interiors, I did wonder if it would be a fad or quick trend similar to how rose gold was a few years ago. However, I absolutely love it, and we have used it many times within our design schemes, from armchairs to cushions. It gives a room texture and a cosy feel. You don’t have to spend a fortune to have some boucle in your home either; there are some really affordable pieces out there, like the Arlo armchair from Dunelm or this gorgeous olive green boucle cushion from Urban Outfitters.

Arches

We think arches are going to be big this year. Whether that's in architectural features, furniture, or home accessories. Arches will add character to a room and suit your interior style, whether you have a traditional or contemporary home. An arch works really well to frame a space and they can be a great alternative to a door, such as to a walk-in wardrobe or ensuite. If you’re currently renovating or making architectural changes to your home, arches are definitely something to consider. Other ways of bringing arches into your home are with mirrors, artwork, or even colour blocking. We particularly like the Arcus full-length mirror from William Wood Mirrors, it's a simple way to add the arch trend to your home in a classic and timeless way.

Decorative trims and finishes

In 2023, decorative trims and finishes really took off. Decorative trims on pieces can really create interest and add some fun to a room. You might remember the bobbin trend from last year on table legs and mirrors - this was really popular with our customers! We also saw lots of table lamps with added decorative detail on the shades.

We are pleased to say that we will be seeing more of this throughout 2024 and we are excited for this one! We will be seeing this trend in shops soon. Think ruffle borders on cushions, patterned trims on curtains, scallop edging on lampshades and furniture, just to name a few! H&M is taking on the trend, we love their scallop edge wooden tray and placemats. Marks and Spencer are also embracing it with their ruffle stripe cushion.

Curves

Away with the straight harsh lines and angles, curves are set to be popular in 2024. We will be seeing curves featured in armchairs, sofas, headboards… the list goes on. We are pleased to see curves becoming more popular this year, as they can really help to soften a room and create a more relaxed vibe, perfect for creating a cosy space! We get that curved sofas aren’t practical for everyone and that's why we recommend bringing the curves in with smaller pieces such as armchairs or dining chairs. We really enjoy exploring the new trends each year and seeing what is going to be popular. Something we want to be clear on is that when making changes in your home, avoid buying into a trend just because it's a ‘trend’.
