Do you, like me, feel this year is galloping along at a crazy pace? How can it be October already?! In all honesty autumn isn’t really my season. Despite it being my birthday, the thought of winter approaching can leave me feeling a bit glum. Yes, the colours are beautiful, but I can’t overlook the impending dark and cold.

But it’s coming, whether I approve or not! So in the spirit of autumn, this week is a round up of the best autumnal flavoured updates for your home from the novelty to the ‘so beautiful I want to keep it forever’! And you never know, by the end of this I might change my mind and start to look forward to hunkering down, lighting the fire and digging out my cosy jumpers!

Beautiful Pumpkins

You can’t think about autumn without including a few pumpkins! There’s something undeniably jolly about a pumpkin, definitely good for lifting the spirits. As well as the toothy grin of the Halloween kind, there are some really interesting pumpkins in the shops - so lovely you might want to keep them way past Autumn. These velvet pumpkins in teals, olives and ochre add both texture and colour to your home and would make a stunning feature on your hearth. For a more pared back nod to the season the white ceramic pumpkins would look great grouped together on a coffee table, and the brass pumpkin light would create interesting light patterns and shadows in your room.

Appeal to the Senses

If your mood could do with a bit of a lift right now, try adding a few accessories that appeal to your senses. Smell is one of our most powerful senses, and can really change the atmosphere of a room. The White Company’s Autumn candle has warming musk and amber, with top notes of orchard fruits to make us think of dappled sunlight shining through burnt orange autumn leaves.

Art is another way to take us somewhere else, and H&M Home has a great new range of prints at very reasonable prices. And who can resist the temptation of a new mug for hot chocolate to warm your hands after a walk?

Layer Texture

As the temperature drops and you spend less time outdoors, bring some nature indoors instead. Layer up natural textures with wood and rattan to add warmth and character to your interior. The different colours in the wooden coasters remind you of the beauty of natural finishes and the large rattan shade freshens the look of any room. The wreath would look equally as good on your mantelpiece, as it would on your front door to welcome visitors.

Get Cosy!

There’s never a better excuse (if you need an excuse!) than Autumn to add to your cushions and throws and maximise the comfort of your living room. Soft furnishings in rust, ochre, burnt orange and khaki greens bring just enough of the seasonal colours to your room to make it cosy and welcoming. A splash of pattern and earthy colours instantly updates your room ready to celebrate the best of the season, and snuggle down together ready to watch Strictly!
